Some properties are purchased for a moment in time. Others are held for generations.  Across New England and the Adirondacks, family compounds have long represented a distinct kind of ownership — properties designed not simply as homes, but as places to return to year after year. With [...]

Richard "Carbo" Carbonetti Honored as Distinguished Forester

Another accolade to add to a stellar resume. Richard Carbo Carbonetti has been elected as the 2021 Distinguished Forester by the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF). This honor is bestowed by peers and recognizes careers with significant impacts on the industry.

Richard Carbonetti

I consider this an award for all my colleagues and mentors. The truth is, we are the product of those relationships, and through our fellow professionals we achieve our goals and objectives. Forestry has been good to me and my family. I am humbled to think anyone noticed."

Carbos accomplishments at LandVest and within the forest industry at-large are numerous and impressive, said Steve Hawkes, Vice President of LandVests Timberland Division. He has served on numerous local, state, regional, and national committees over his 40-plus year career. His influence on New England forestry is immeasurable and will be felt for generations.

On receiving the award, Carbo said, I consider this an award for all my colleagues and mentors. The truth is, we are the product of those relationships, and through our fellow professionals we achieve our goals and objectives. Forestry has been good to me and my family. I am humbled to think anyone noticed.

Carbos career at LandVest started with a request to provide subcontracting services in the late 1980s. At the time, his own company, Round Top Woodlot Management, had started expanding its consulting forestry services into larger cruising and analysis projects. As the relationship between Carbo and LandVest grew, the natural next step was to merge the two companies, and the combined efforts have returned phenomenal results.

In 1995, LandVest managed just over 120,000 acres across four states while his firm managed about 80,000 in Vermont and regionally. By the middle 2000s LandVest was managing over 2.1 million acres and had expanded from NY, VT, NH & ME to MA, PA & VA and achieved certification to the FSC (license code FSC-C120428) and SFI (NSF-SFI-FM-C0316874) standards. Carbo was promoted to VP Timberland in 2010 and then to Senior VP Timberland, Director, Management and Consulting, in 2015 before stepping away to take on a different senior advisor and mentoring role in 2019.

Carbo has long been the face of LandVest on many professional boards, committees, and organizations, but it took the encouragement of LandVest founder Mike Whitney to join ACF. Fortunately, Carbo has never looked back from his decision to join and has found that ACF has enriched both his personal and professional lives. He has served on several ACF committees and as the associations president from 2010 to 2012.

Everyone at LandVest is incredibly lucky to have someone like Carbo, with his wealth of experience, passion for forestry, and steady inspiration, to turn to. Knowing that the next generation of consulting foresters has Carbo to guide them makes LandVest a stronger company. Congratulations and thank you, Carbo!
