LandVest-Managed Forests Obtain SFI Program Certification in Northern California

Olympia, WA LandVest Timberlands obtains conformance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standard for balanced stewardship of timberlands in northern California. LandVest coordinates the certification of its managed timberlands throughout the United States.

LandVest became the comprehensive field-services provider and lands manager in California for 187,000-acres in 2018. The lands consist of a high-quality expanse of sustainably managed interior and coastal California timberlands. In 2020, Director of Informatics, Weikko Jaross, expanded LandVests Client Services to include green certification with the addition of Lislie Sayers of LSAY LLC and LandVests Jack Santamour, both seasoned veterans in the certification domain. Their leadership runs deep with preparing forest management teams for success.

LandVest enrolled their western management practices in the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program in the spring of 2020. LandVests policies, plans, strategies and in-field practices on LandVest-managed lands were deemed in conformance with the SFI standard. In October, LandVest was recommended certification in northern California. LandVest is recognized for their exemplary management practices related to the following areas of stewardship:

  • Climate research and protections from fire
  • Forest inventory
  • Local community engagement
  • Protection of fish and other habitats
  • Road management

LandVest has built a company culture focused on adding value and certainty through standardization of methods, consistency of product, and flexibility in implementation. We are pleased with the recognition of our sustainable practices. With the dedication of highly-regarded industry talent, Weikko with Lislie and Jack allowed LandVest to better support our clients certification and planning needs. said Sam Porter, Managing Director of Western Timberlands.

Over 365 million acres of forestland are third-party certified under the SFI standard, making it the dominant certification standard in the United States and North America. For more information about the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program, visit their website at www.forests.org.
