Vermonts covered bridges are iconic. A look through Instagram results in thousands of photos of these quintessentially New England sights. So, when the Connachers architect, Jim Strasman of Strasman Architects, saw the stream running through their 240-acre property he knew exactly what to build.
As seen in the Wall Street Journal, Deerwood is a newly listed property in Stowe, Vermont thats on the market for $17.5 million with Meg Kauffman and Wade Weathers.
The home, completed in 1994, is suspended over a stream fed by a small waterfall. For years, its served the Connacher family, who hail from Toronto, as a vacation home perfect for getting onto Stowes increasingly popular slopes during the winter and for exploring the gorgeous surroundings year-round.
Construction of the home took around a year and featured local building materials like slate from southern Vermont as well as materials fabricated in Quebec and trucked to Vermont.
In addition to the bridge house, the property also includes the original frame house, several outbuildings, a tennis court, and five ponds including one for swimming.
