Forty years ago and just married, we were riding our bicycles down Concord St. We stopped to admire this lovely scene, of a graceful yellow house on a rise and its handsome barn below. But it was what we saw beyond its old stone walls and fields, this expansive view across the expanse of marsh grass over white sand beaches to the blue horizon of sea and sky that was like none other. We never imagined that three years later, expecting our first child, we would be the owners of this beautiful place along Essex Bay.

Nor could we know the rich and happy times it would make for our family and friends.

It became the place of life passages and celebration, first steps and birthday piatas, pool parties and boathouse sleepovers, graduation pig roasts and two of childrens beautiful weddings as they made their walk and vows down the peony aisle.

There is never a day or a season the views from the property dont engage you with their drama. To look out from the high granite dome of the bandstand across the bay of Maine can make just a morning cup of coffee or lighting up the grill be a breathtaking moment. yellow house farm

The fields have hosted baseball games and disc golf tournaments, and a couple of ponies and a small herd of sheep. It has been the territory of a good rabbit chase on early morning dog walks. It is the home to evening fireflies on its verges. It is the way to slip off to the boathouse for an afternoon nap or time with a good book. The fields and woods have been the great gift of open space and its pleasures of peace and solitude. yellow house farm The salt marsh and her creek have been the place for a secluded swim, or to drop in for a kayak or hop in the outboard to head off to Cranes sandy beaches or catch the incoming tide and fish for stripers. There we know the daily rhythms of the tidal sea ebbing and flowing out of her rich and diverse ecosystem. yellow house farm With the quickly disappearing wild places along the coast, we will always be grateful for the privilege and wonders of this beautiful point of land and her house along the Essex Bay. yellow house farm
