There is nothing like fall in New England; the weather, the fairs, and of course, the foliage. There are the big cities and towns that tourists tend to flock to during this time of year, but there are many other New England gems that are beautiful in the fall. Recently, Smarter Travel released their list of 8 Secret New England Towns Perfect for Fall, and while we agree with their suggestions, we also have our own favorites to add to the list.
Rockport is well known for its multitude of summer activities; however, this seaside town should not be missed in the fall! In October, locals look forward to the annual Rockport HarvestFest.

The charming town of Little Compton is wonderful place to spend a crisp fall day exploring the town commons or strolling along Goosewing Beach. Experience the local flavor picking apples at Peckhams Greenhouse, wine tasting at the Sakonnet Vineyards, or cooking up dinner with produce from one of the many local farm stands.

Montpelier offers small town charm and big city flavor. Exquisite historic buildings are home to Vermonts state government, shopping, commerce and world-class dining and arts. What better way to enjoy the colors of autumn and explore this pedestrian and bike friendly city than on the two shared-use rails to trails paths that connect to Montpelier along the Winooski River.

Shelburne is a classic Vermont village located on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. The maple trees that line the central village green are ablaze with color in the fall making for a perfect stroll through the village shops which never get too crowded. Fall is also a great time to visit the famed Shelburne Museum or learn about cheese making at Shelburne Farms.

Woodstock, Vermont is one of the classic destinations for fall, from great walks up through the Marsh-Billings National Historic site up Mount Tom, wandering around the Green, to watching glass blowing at Simon Pearce, pottery making at Farmhouse Pottery, or exploring the creaking wood-floored aisles of Gillinghams Store, let alone sampling the gourmet delights at the Woodstock Farmers Market, there is plenty to delight the eyes and the palate!
