Some properties are purchased for a moment in time. Others are held for generations.  Across New England and the Adirondacks, family compounds have long represented a distinct kind of ownership — properties designed not simply as homes, but as places to return to year after year. With [...]

Great New England Barns

Eric Sloane celebrated the cultural symbolism of barns in his "An Age of Barns", one of our favorite resources for fans of Vermont's beloved barns.

Here, we celebrate some of LandVest clients' stewardship and creative imagination for their barns. While many store as much technology as hay, they remain a symbol of New England's rural heritage.

8,000 square foot barn originally built circa 1850 was completely restored in 2001 by the current owners. The entire barn was reconstructed on a new foundation to include modern amenities without compromising its historic charm.

What we love about Beaver Brook Farm's barn:

The two bedroom guest apartment Dance hall and movie screening room with kitchenette Simulated golf driving range with putting green Fully operational woodshop with dust collection system Every level of this 3-level structure is heated and impeccably insulated

Cedar Farm

Cedar Farm is a historic, 14-acre estate on the edge of Lake Champlain, surrounded by great rolling lawns, meadows, fruit trees and gardens. Once a working dairy farm, the property has a massive barn complex, the main barn completely renovated in 2013, highlighting the massive beam work and sweeping views down to the lake. It is currently used as an office but is also a magical spot for entertaining. The barn also houses a heated workshop, smaller rooms for storage or a chicken coop and, on a lower level, large original cow stalls and stanchions.

Breeze Hill

Owner Andy Stewart fell in love with a Shaker Barn and had its massive and elegant frame reconstructed at his Hartland, Vermont home. The barn houses animals for sure, but also provides a four-story-high party room, office space and glorious views from the upper floors.

Serenity Farm

Serenity Farm is in the heart of Vermont horse country with an exceptional classic post & beam bank barn that has been carefully fitted for 7 stalls, tack and feed room, wash room and expansive hay loft. The design retains the old barn feel while providing an excellent re-purpose. The property includes a renovated 1850s farmhouse, 139 acres, swimming pond, riding ring and hillside meadow, located within a few miles of Woodstock.
