Built for Generations: Family Compounds Across New England & The Adirondacks05.12.2026

alt tag
Some properties are purchased for a moment in time. Others are held for generations.  Across New England and the Adirondacks, family compounds have long represented a distinct kind of ownership — properties designed not simply as homes, but as places to return to year after year. With [...]

LandVest Loves Green Mountain Horse Association, South Woodstock, Vermont

GMHA, with its rolling meadows filled with cross-country obstacles and the cool Kedron Brook running under giant maples trees, is the hub of equestrian sports in New England. The only non-profit to support all the major English competitive disciplines: eventing, dressage, hunter-jumpers, driving and trail riding/endurance, GMHA has been the place of great memories for generations of New England equestrians.

LandVest is a Grand Champion sponsor of GMHA, and our roots run deep. Residential Brokerage Director, Ruth Kennedy Sudduth, first competed at GMHA at age 13 and (shall we say) for quite a few decades since.

Ruth, who serves on the Board of Directors at GMHA, says her goal is to compete in all five GMHA disciplines to this point shes ridden in a 50 mile, competed at the hunter-jumper show (not very well, she says), ridden Intermediare-level freestyles to 50s surfer music and galloped around cross-country. Next up - driving!

GMHA is all about community Kristin Hayes Claire, LandVests New Hampshire Regional Director, lent Ruths 13 year old stepdaughter, Sophie, a wonderful grey appaloosa named Zeus to compete in her first horse trials a couple of years ago. (Doesnt he look so much like the Appy in the old photo of Ruth?)

Kristin, herself a former Advanced level eventer, displayed her multiple talents, competing last weekend at the June Dressage Show, winning one class at Third Level and placing in another. Kristins daughter Emily is looking forward to her events this season at GMHA as well. Here is a photo of Emily from a few years ago when she was Sophies age (also on Zeus, the Super Appy!).

LandVest Woodstocks Story Jenks is our most accomplished equestrian, representing the United States at the World Championships in Eventing. Story has been dispensing his wisdom as judge at GMHA, and you can find him at C in a couple of weeks. We will have to get some photos to share!

LandVest is delighted to have been able to be a major sponsor of GMHAs footing upgrade project. Great footing makes all the difference in horse sports, and we were proud to use some of the proceeds from the closing of Stonebridge Farm toward the footing upgrade project. The tremendous improvement of this great project made national equestrian news in a feature in Dressage Daily.
