Some properties are purchased for a moment in time. Others are held for generations.  Across New England and the Adirondacks, family compounds have long represented a distinct kind of ownership — properties designed not simply as homes, but as places to return to year after year. With [...]

Ask the Seller: 162 Point Road, Marion

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in one of LandVests properties? We invite our owners to tell us a bit about their experience, what they love about their homes, and a bit of their history. Here is what the owners of 162 Point Road in Marion, MA told us about their property, how they came to own it, and what they love about living here.

How we came to call 162 Point Road "home"

My siblings and I inherited the property from our parents. After looking in Marion for many years, my parents found the perfect home and bought it from a friend in a private sale.

This home has been in our family for over 40 years and has been used both year-round and for summer fun. My parents were drawn to Marion because it was, and remains, one of the quaintest towns on the shores of MA with one of the best sailing bays in the world.

Ever since our Dad quit his position in the center field of Fenway Park, our family has congregated at the house for family time and entertaining. Our mother loved to give grand tent soirees in the yard by the pool, typically in celebration of an event or person. And we spent hours diving for lobsters, fishing and swimming from the beach, watching the activity on the harbor, and enjoying the phenomenal sunsets.

What makes our Marion property special

Location, location, location. It is the sailors, boaters and fishermans paradise of Buzzards Bay. The private beach and natural surrounds are unsurpassed. It is perched high on a bluff on the northern edges with near panoramic views of Buzzards Bay including Converse Point, the Elizabeth Islands off in the distance, and the westerly shores of Cape Cod beyond the iconic lighthouses of Bird Island and Cleveland Ledge.

The approach along Point Road past the 9th and 13th holes of the Kittansett Club on the left with an easterly vista of greenery backdropped by blue waters and sky, conjure up thoughts of the tranquility of the ocean air. Then, as the 13th hole and Point Road turn southerly, there is the sudden break in the overhead tree cover and right-hand tree line revealing Butler Point bluff over the Bay. The breathtaking view of the Bay here, whether calm and polka dotted by the bright spinnakers of July and August sailboat races or raging with frothy whitecaps and blowing winter mists of December and January, is always awe-inspiring. The property provides the wind, sun, and surf of a Cape Cod retreat without the crowds or the traffic. It is convenient to the sandy shores of Piney Point Beach Club, the best harbor (Sippican) in the Northeast, and the world class golf of the Kittansett Club.

The best spot on the property?

Under the fern tree drinking ice tea and watching the activity in the harbor.
