Every Fourth of July, people flood to New Englands lakes. For generations, people have been eager to get out on the water, take in gorgeous scenery, and enjoy bustling lake towns. So, when Travel + Leisure was putting together their list of the countrys 15 Best Lake Towns, its no surprise that three of our favorites were included.
Rangeley, Maine

This certainly isnt the first time the Rangeley Lakes Region has been in the spotlight. Rand McNally described the area as one of Americas few remaining vacation spots where one can truly escape most of the disadvantages of civilization. From a home like Barker Loop Camp, discover terrific salmon and trout fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking.

Wolfeboro, New Hampshire

It makes sense that New Hampshires largest lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, is surrounded by some of New Englands most popular lake towns. Wolfeboro in particular has been visited for generations and claims the title of the oldest summer resort in America. After exploring this waterfront town center, get out onto the lake, which has an expansive 72 square miles of water.

With the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain as a backdrop, its easy to see why this area is frequently topping lists for livability and quality of life.
