3 Reasons Why We Love Portland Maine's West End

Portland, Maines West End is one of New Englands most iconic neighborhoods. Located downtown, the West End occupies the western side of Portland on a dramatic bluff overlooking views of the White Mountains. From its rich history rooted in the Victorian era, to its parks and restaurants, the West End is easily one of our favorite local hotspots.

      1. The Park

When we think of the West End, one of the first landmarks that comes to mind is the Western Promenade. Set on 25 acres, the Western Promenade is designed with strolling paths, stretches of landscaped lawns, beautiful flower beds, and stunning views of the Fore River and the White Mountains. The Western Promenade accommodates both peaceful contemplation and active recreation. Enjoy the sunset from a park bench, walk your dog past the beautiful gardens, or go for a vigorous run on a foggy morning.

      2. The Architecture

The West Ends character is preserved as the Historic District of Portland. Some homes reflect dramatic High Victorian Gothic styles. Others have asymmetrical gables, tiered turrets, columned porticos, pointed windows with gingerbread trim and wrought iron gate work. Portlands Historic District is one of the best-preserved Victorian era neighborhoods in the United States.

      3. The Food

Portland is one of Americas foodiest cities and was named one of Americas top destination food towns by Huffington Post.In the West End, we have too many restaurants to highlight theyre all that delicious! Two of our favorites are:

      • Bonobo is a great pizzeria right on Pine Street. Toppings like charred kale, sunset acre pork, hearty black bean, and roasted onions dress Bonobos wood-fire pizzas.
      • Boda, a Thai kitchen, features small plates, soups, salads, and sides. Our favorites include stir-fried noodles, pad Thai, sticky rice balls, house-fried peanuts, and crispy quail.

The perks of the park, architecture, and food make the West End a great place to live. Our team loves listing and selling West End properties because they offer the style of a great neighborhood with the ease of living right in town.

LandVest is currently offering a condo in the heart of the West End at 414 Danforth Street. When we asked the sellers of this West End Townhouse what they love, they said, "it's a home that spans over 4,700 functional feet, with water views on every level, and most importantly feels so amazingly comfortable." The 3-car garage is a rare find in the West End, along with exclusive use and ownership of beautiful gardens.
