Party on Ice or Olympic Event - U.S. National Toboggan Championships in Camden, Maine!

Before home refrigerators, there were icehouses. Ice was cut, packed with insulation, and stored in these buildings for use during the summer months. Today, ice is still a cool commodity for the Camden Maine community which hosts the annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships. Imagine sliding down an ice-covered 440-foot chute, at speeds up to 40 miles an hour, onto a frozen Hosmer Pond! Every winter since 1991, more than 5,000 people gather to watch hundreds of teams race. Competitive tobogganing in Maine is more winter festival than Olympic sport. To register for the race, click here. Just want to warm up with a cup of cocoa and enjoy Camden camaraderie? This years event takes place next Friday, Feb.10 through Sunday, Feb 12 at the Camden Snow Bowl.

Whether coming just for the weekend or staying for a lifetime, you will find Camden a charming and vibrant village on Penobscot Bay in the heart of the midcoast region.
