Author Kenneth Robert's Inspirational Kennebunkport Estate - Own a Piece of History

If youre an American historical fiction buff, especially with an interest in New England, then youve surely read Kenneth Roberts. Starting as a journalist with The Saturday Evening Post, Mr. Roberts became a popular writer of historical fiction including Arundel, Rabble in Arms, Northwest Passage and Oliver Wiswell. In 1957, two months before his death, Roberts received a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation "for his historical novels which have long contributed to the creation of greater interest in our early American history."

Born in Kennebunk, Maine, Mr. Roberts commissioned this distinctive estate, Rocky Pasture, to be built in 1938 in Kennebunkport. The pastoral 24 acre setting, with additional land available, offers a wonderful tract of unbroken land and includes access to a peaceful 6+ acre lily pond and a mature oak tree forest frequented by white-tailed deer and other wildlife. With such surroundings, like Kenneth Roberts, youre bound to find the author in you.

Coming into the primary 5,079 square-foot stone mansion, the recent updates and renovations are apparent. Custom millwork and moldings, unique tile and hardwood floors, tasteful wallpaper and interior decorating are all featured as you make your way through the sun-filled five bedrooms and four and one-half baths. Three stone terraces, many windows and a wonderful balcony offer glimpses of the cloistered gardens, surrounding woodlands, and meadows. An additional stone cottage of 2,600 square feet provides an excellent opportunity for a private au pair, a guest residence, studio or office.
