The Masten House

The Masten House is a historic, very private retreat property nestled in the Adirondack wilderness on the edge of the High Peaks, undeveloped Henderson Lake and headwaters of the Hudson River. This inholding in a huge protected property is currently an educational retreat property operated by SUNY’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry’s (ESF) College Foundation. Built in 1927, the grand mansion was originally a residence owned by the Masten family, then served as an exclusive retreat for National Lead Mining Company executives and now an educational retreat property. Hiking, boating, fishing, hunting and exploring opportunities abound as the property is in close proximity to the Tahawus trail head into the High Peaks, the Hudson River and its tributaries, the historic ghost town of Adirondac and the only private boat access to the spectacular Henderson Lake.

The historic, well-maintained house has a large modern kitchen, 8 bedrooms, 10 fireplaces, a guest house and generator house (the property is off the grid). A short walk to Henderson Lake allows private access to one of the Adirondack’s most spectacular lightly used two-mile lake with bays and marshes to explore and some of the best views in the Adirondacks to be had from a canoe including a grand view of Indian Pass, the huge cliffs on Wallface and vistas of MacNaughton Mountain, Mount Marshall, Colden, Mount Adams, and the North River Mountains.
