Statuesque and elegant, East of Eden is one of the few remaining turn of the century 'Gilded Age' mansions to survive the devastating wild fire of 1947. This totally renovated and updated 15,000 sq. ft. residence was designed by prestigious architect Guy Lowell, and built in 1907 in the Beaux Arts style, with Mediterranean Italian overtones. Architectural details abound throughout, with Ionic columns framing patterned marble, Douglas fir or oak parquet floors, arched ceilings, orate niches and intricate fireplaces throughout the formal living, dining and game rooms. Great attention to detail has been given in preserving the many architectural details, including an original pastel mural depicting the nearby lush scenery.
